DavidEmaikwuFences

In the play, there were quite a number of fences. There was the literal one built by Troy. Then there the figurative and social ones such as Troy's choice to distance himself from his children and even his wife, and the racial issues dealt with the fencing apart of Colored and White people.

Some examples of segregation were that Troy and Bono were not allowed to be drivers of garbage trucks before because only White men were allowed that job. Also by the fact that Troy would not allot his son, Cory, to play football because he feared that the "White man" will not allow him to become successful.

Troy builds a fence around himself mentally to stay isolated from others. He goes against everything his son Cory wants to do and tells him "I don't have to like you." He then cheats on his wife and has a baby by another woman. During the faliing action of the play, he even sends his son Cory away permanently and he dies before Cory ever returns.
