Within the play, Fences,  the speech of the characters had the sound and rhythm of the Blues. The Blues is a personalized  form of music developed in the 1890's. Blues Music had a major impact on African Americans during the Harlem Renaissance.  Here are some examples of Blues songs. Give them a listen. Enjoy.

Some Note worthy names in the production of Blues music were, Robert Johnson, W.C. Handy, Corey Haris, and Rosco Gordon.

This Blues is especially note worthy because there were many allusions to the term "hell-hounds" in Fences. Gabe, Troy's brother was always singing about them and he considers himself to be the Angel Gabriel chasing hellhounds around.
